Miss Sheila Murray

Peebles March Riding and Beltane Queen Festival was saddened to learn of the passing of Miss Sheila Murray on 18th December, in her 98th year. A former teacher in the town, Sheila was Beltane Queen in 1940.

The early war years saw the crowning ceremonies moved away from the High Street and Sheila was crowned in the playground of the old Kingsland School. 50 years later, Sheila was selected to crown Beltane Queen Emma Buckingham.

Sheila’s funeral will take place at Peebles Cemetery (Main Gate) on Tuesday 7th January at 1pm.
